Phonics/Spelling
This week we are learning about the /er/ sound. This sound can be spelt numerous ways.
‘er’ as in fern
‘ir’ as in bird
‘or’ as in word
‘ur’ as in turn
Below is a list of words that have the /er/ sound in them.
bird, burst, church, curl, dirt, fern, fir, first, germ, girl, herd, hurt
On a mini whiteboard, paper or even using chalk outside on the driveway, we would like you to practice what we do in class each day.
- Say the sounds out loud.
- Read the word out loud.
- Write the word saying the sounds out loud as you write them.

Reading/Writing

Below is a link to a PowerPoint for this week’s literacy learning. Students will be familiar with the format of this style of learning. We are learning about Narratives in Year 2. Please go through the slides following the ‘Title’ slides for each day. There are usually around 6 slides per day.

BEDTIME READING

No matter what work you did or did not get to do today, make sure you spend 10-20mins before bed reading a story together. You could choose a book from your bookshelf or click on the ‘Useful Links’ Tab and go to the Year 2 Reading Hub. Here you can click on one of the links to download and read free decodable readers.
